On A Shih Tzu Diet: The Fruits and Vegetables To Love!

It’s dinner time! You and your family start to gather around the table. As you sit down, you notice your furry best friend trying to get into one of the chairs on the dining table. But since he was not able to reach the seat, all that he could was to make those cute puppy eyes that you cannot say no to!

For sure, you will be afraid to give your pooch a human food for the fear that something bad may happen to them. For your information, there are some vegetables and fruits that are perfect for your beloved pet. Here are some of them:

  • Blueberries

We all know how beneficial berries are for humans. Well, guess what? These are perfect for your pet too! In fact, these fruits can be usually found in the biscuits and cookies that your dog usually eat.  This is a great source of antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients for your dog. That is why it is highly recommended that you put frozen blueberries in the water of your dog. This will be a perfect treat for the summer season.

  • Apples

We all know that apples are great sources of vitamin C and potassium for humans. Well, they can provide the said nutrients to your dog too. Just make sure that you will give your pet the soft and ripe ones and shy away from hard and green ones. Plus, you should not forget to remove the seed and core of the apples before giving it to your dog.

  • Potatoes

This type of vegetable can give your dog the manganese, fiber, potassium and vitamin B6 that he needs. Yes, they can have potatoes. No, they cannot have French fries. Never fry the potatoes. Instead, roast the potatoes for at least 20 minutes before giving it to your dogs. You do not have to remove the peel too!

  • Edamame

This is probably one of the most convenient items that you can feed your dogs since you can buy frozen edamame in the grocery near you. You just have to simply boil this according to package instructions.

  • Banana

Many dogs love the taste of bananas and this can be a great source of fiber, potassium, and carbohydrates for dogs. You can throw in some banana slices into your dog’s bowl. However, be reminded that you should give your dog only 1/3 of a medium sized banana as it is considered to be high in calories.

The next time your dog makes those adorable puppy eyes that you cannot resist, you do not have to say no anymore! Instead, we recommend that you give them any of the fruits and vegetables that we have mentioned above. However, you must keep in mind that there are some dogs that are more sensitive than the others. That is why it is still best that you monitor how he is feeling after giving him any of these fruits and vegetables. It is also very important that your Shih Tzu is used to eating from a sanitary bowl, where you can mix these veggies. If you have noticed any signs of gastrointestinal upset, take him to the vet right away.
